RadiantOne Virtual Directory Server Proxy Edition is a cost-effective, easy to deploy virtual directory, designed to solve the most common directory integration challenges—out of the box, at an easily justified price point. VDS Proxy Edition is designed for environments with relatively simple needs where a proxy-based approach will provide acceptable performance levels.
VDS Proxy Edition functions as an abstraction layer between applications, identities, and data repositories. It federates queries and unifies multiple directories and database tables into a single LDAP source. The identity data is then published into views that are tailored and optimized for the specific needs of security applications such as web access management (WAM). Once virtualized, identity and "directory" information can be accessed via LDAP or DSML.
By leveraging the underlying and existing data structures, VDS Proxy Edition is quick and easy to deploy into your existing architecture without the risk of disrupting existing integration. Queries are made in real-time, keeping the data secure in the existing data sources.

 |
VDS analyzes data structures of existing identity stores and builds a proxy model of the objects and their relationships found in the underlying source. |
 |
Multiple virtual "directory views" are created and customized using the VDS tools, without disrupting existing integration points. |
 |
Data sources are accessed in real-time and identities are aggregated and published based on the requirements of your security and access management applications.
|
 |
Identity information is delivered to an application through the high performance, scalable, and fault-resistant LDAP v3 directory service, or via DSML. High availability and speed are guaranteed through RadiantOne's caching technology. (See VDS Proxy Edition Performance)

RadiantOne Virtual Directory Server enables an identity infrastructure that will meet the ever-changing requirements of an organization. Whether it's for internal or external users, employees, contractors, partners, or customers, RadiantOne VDS Proxy Edition is the single access point for all IdM applications and service platforms.

»
VDS Admin Console:
With new scenario-driven wizards, users can easily accomplish various
identity and access management tasks. Scenarios include web access management, Active Directory object
and attribute mapping to SunOne (or other LDAP v3 directory server), and Active Directory forest
aggregation. With new role-based administration accounts, you can delegate administrative rights for
more flexibility and better security.
» Remote Admin Console: The new web-based Remote Admin Console brings the same VDS console features to remote users in one or multiple server environments. RadiantOne Remote Console was created using Web 2.0 technology based on Flex by Adobe.
» Access & Audit Logging: VDS also offers database-based log files, making it easier than ever to see who accessed what and when. Graphic-based reports are easily produced, providing detailed information needed for access compliance audits.
» VDS LDAP Local Store and LDAP Router: RadiantOne VDS Proxy Edition includes a scalable LDAP v3 local store, compatible with Sun, Redhat, and Netscape directories. Use the local store to replace existing directories; store custom configurations; create non-intrusive schema and attributes extension; and add additional users and group membership entries, or any other LDAP entries as needed.
In addition, RadiantOne VDS Proxy Edition comes with an LDAP router for load balancing, fail-over, and monitoring of connected identity stores.
» Monitoring: VDS monitors the status and performance of the VDS server itself, and any connected sources. Any change in status generates a service alert, emailed to specified administrators immediately.
» Delegated VDS Administration Accounts: Administrative accounts can be assigned by role to give added flexibility in VDS administration activities. Combined with the Remote Admin Console and monitoring features, administrators can head off problems before they happen, from almost any location, which means higher service levels and easier troubleshooting than ever before.

Leverage existing identity information:
With RadiantOne, your enterprise can use identity data in existing directories and databases without modification. This
allows you to avoid complicated political and data stewardship issues by leveraging available data instead of having to
recreate the identity in yet another disparate data source.
» Speed deployments: Using virtualization,
you use information from traditional, inflexible data sources in a flexible layer that allows you to format data for
specific application requirements. Graphically-based tools for design, testing, and simulation are quick and easy to use,
for an accurate and speedy deployment process.
»
Dramatically reduce integration costs: Traditional integration methods tend to be hard-coded and tightly coupled.
This means repetitious work and slower deployment times due to complicated change management. With RadiantOne, your
enterprise can avoid these traditional pitfalls to integration. Virtualization cuts down on cost and development time,
leading to a faster return on investment for current and future identity initiatives.
» Flexible and lightweight trust management:
Managing trust in a non-intrusive manner can be difficult in complex environments. VDS gives you an easy way to
define trust across multiple directory systems, directory forests, domain controllers, and s
ecurity domains—without affecting existing directory operations. You can now federate Active Directory
domains without touching your current infrastructure.
» Support multiple initiatives:
RadiantOne VDS delivers different views of your identities to different applications. RadiantOne’s
flexibility makes it available to address a broad range of identity initiatives, allowing you to add and
expand into future initiatives on an as-needed basis. Whether you need to solve a specific identity challenge
or implement a complete identity strategy, RadiantOne is the right foundation.
» Adapt quickly to new requirements:
With RadiantOne VDS, you can easily reconfigure views to meet new requirements, rather than implement complex
and heavy synchronization and re-programming your existing infrastructure.
