IDENTITY CHALLENGE

  • » Use customer billing database to provide identities to its web security deployment

OVERVIEW:

A large telecommunications provider wanted to deploy web management products to protect web content and applications. However, as the system architect looked over the requirements, it was clear there were several hurdles that needed to be addressed:

  • » Identity data must be accessible via LDAP. However, their best source of customer information was in a database.
  • » The data must always be up to date in order to properly enforce policy - the company cannot afford the risk associated with a large window between synchronization periods.
  • » The schema has to be extended to include new custom attributes.

Based on these requirements, it was clear that traditional approaches to integration would make building a proper identity repository a major challenge. Traditional pure-synchronization approaches would not be able to satisfy all of these requirements.

SOLUTION:

RadiantOne Identity and Context Virtualization Platform provides real-time access to the database information (and other data sources) through a standard LDAP directory interface. Using virtualization, RadiantOne makes access to various enterprise data sources consistent and compatible with what the application requires, without resorting to the invasive, tightly-bound customization associated with synchronization.

RESULTS:

By taking advantage of virtualization, this telecommunication company was able to get its identity software running using information from the database, with fast integration and without building out extra directories to manage or complex metadirectory synchronization.

With the RadiantOne Identity and Context Virtualization Platform in place, it's now positioned to tackle future identity requirements simply by adapting the virtual view(s). By leveraging the existing virtualization work, deploying new identity software is fast and simple without disrupting the integration work already done.
